2020: A Year In Review

2020: A Year In Review

Oh, What a Year!

I think it’s safe to say that we are all ready to leave the year 2020 in our rearview mirror. Despite the challenges we faced, we witnessed a number of occasions where our team stepped up in the face of an unprecedented pandemic, which began with the shift of in-office visits to telemedicine during the height of the shutdown to continue to serve our patients.  If you are a patient of UCA, thank you for your support in understanding the health guidelines that were put in place to keep our employees, physicians and yourself safe and secure.

I can honestly say that I am deeply grateful and humbled to be surrounded by such an impressive group of colleagues. Our continued growth and success simply couldn’t have been possible without you. After all that we have gone through professionally and personally, I would like to share some of the highlights we saw this past year:

Grandview Office: We doubled the size of our office footprint with the completion of our Grandview location. This expansion, along with the additional 2 new providers, has enabled us to serve more patients near the 280 corridor.

Dr. Brian Larson’s Retirement

For 12 years and hundreds of patients, Dr. Larson was the guiding force behind the development and success of the radiation therapy program offered at UCA. He will be sorely missed by everyone.

New Providers & Staff: We’re always thrilled to add new expertise to our growing family. This year we’ve welcomed Dr. Lee Burnett as our new Radiation Oncologist, Callie Inge, PA-C as a Physician’s Assistant at St. Vincent’s Birmingham, Rebecca Kearney, MSPAS, PA-C as a Physician’s Assistant in our Grandview Medical Center office, Heather Hardy Williams, CRNP as our new Nurse Practitioner at the UCA Women’s Center, and our new Human Resources Manager, Dustin Knowles. And in 2021, Dr. David Qi joins the UCA family as a Reconstructive Urologist seeing patients at Grandview and Homewood beginning in February.

Annual CME Conference

We were able to successfully host one of the last in-person continuing education conferences of 2020. This annual event allows for the opportunity for UCA physicians to come together with primary care providers from around the area, to educate them about urological issues their patients face and how we can assist in the care of their patients.

Implemented Patient Care Pathways & Navigator Program

Patient-centered care has always been ingrained in our practice and beliefs. Having this team in place ensures that we don’t let our patients fall through the cracks. Our navigators can effectively each serve 700 to 800 patients at a time. The navigators act as patient advocates and ensure patients are treated timely with the appropriate treatment plan.

New Electronic Medical Record System

In August 2021, we will be transitioning our patient records to Allscripts.  You will be receiving more information this Summer regarding this exciting change!

Oh, what a year it’s been, but I look forward to all that 2021 brings. I want to thank each and every one of you for allowing UCA to serve you and be your healthcare partner. As always, please feel free to reach out to me or any of our management team if we can be of assistance at 205-930-0920.
