Dr. Lee Hammontree

Dr. Hammontree is a graduate of Lipscomb University and a native of Nashville. He obtained his medical degree in 1988 from The University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, Tennessee. He completed his internship and residency in urology at the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Hammontree has practiced urology in private practice for over 31 years. Early in his career, he led the introduction of laparoscopic urologic surgery to Alabama, teaching advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques to urologists throughout the region. Over the course of his career, he has performed more than 5,000 laparoscopic and robotic surgical procedures.

In 2002, Dr. Hammontree joined the faculty of the Division of Urology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he maintained a busy university practice, served as Chief of Urology at the Veterans Administration Hospital, and participated in resident and medical student education. He has participated in clinical and NIH-funded research, published in peer-reviewed journals, and served as a reviewer for the Journal of Urology.

In January 2006, Dr. Hammontree returned to Urology Centers of Alabama, where he continues to offer advanced minimally invasive and robotic surgery of the kidney and bladder, as well as cryoablation of the prostate for prostate cancer.

Dr. Hammontree now focuses a significant portion of his practice on comprehensive men’s health, sexual medicine, and prosthetic urology. He offers advanced surgical treatment for male urinary incontinence, including artificial urinary sphincters and male slings, as well as penile prosthetic implantation for erectile dysfunction. He serves as Director of Sexual Medicine and Prosthetic Urology at Urology Centers of Alabama.

Dr. Hammontree is active in organized urology and has served on the Board of Directors of the Southeastern Section of the American Urological Association.
