Bladder Cancer: What You Need to Know

Bladder cancer affects more than 725,000 Americans—including University of Colorado football coach Deion Sanders, who recently shared his successful recovery. With over 1,200 Alabamians expected to be diagnosed this year, bladder cancer is the sixth-most common cancer in the state.

UCA President Dr. Mike Bivins and other experts emphasize the importance of education, early detection, and understanding treatment options like the neobladder. While men make up the majority of cases, women often face delayed diagnoses and worse outcomes. Smoking remains the leading risk factor, but exposure to certain chemicals also increases risk.
