In the wake of former President Joe Biden’s recent diagnosis with advanced prostate cancer, Dr. Michael Bivins, urologist and President here at Urology Centers of Alabama, is urging men, especially those over 40, to prioritize early screening for prostate cancer.
Biden’s case, which progressed undetected for over a decade since his last PSA test in 2014, underscores the critical importance of regular screenings.
“Prostate screenings save lives,” says Dr. Bivins. “Screening for prostate cancer takes about 10 minutes, and those could be the most important 10 minutes of a man’s life.” He emphasizes that early detection significantly increases the chances of successful treatment, noting that prostate cancer is highly treatable when caught in its early stages.
